*Argentina’s national statistics institute (Indec) has released its latest consumer price index (IPC), showing a continued slowdown in the annual inflation rate, which fell to 55.9% in March, down from 66.9%
in February, 84.5%
in January, and 117.8%
in December. However monthly inflation rose for the second consecutive month, standing at 3.7%. This was up from 2.4% in February and 2.2% in January and is the highest monthly rate since August 2024. The monthly rate also surpassed the 2.7% median estimate of analysts surveyed by Bloomberg. The highest monthly price increase was registered in the education category (+21.6%), with increases in all educational levels due to the beginning of the school year. This was followed by food & non-alcoholic drinks (+5.9%), clothing & footwear (+4.6%), and restaurants & hotels (+3.9%). The smallest prices rises were registered in the alcoholic drinks & tobacco (+0.8%) and recreation & culture (+0.2%) categories.
