Claudia Sheinbaum has assured that the majority of automotive companies operating in Mexico are not planning to move their operations despite
the tariffs imposed on imports of vehicles and vehicle parts by US President
Donald Trump. In a press conference, Sheinbaum said she had spoken to the CEOs, or global managers, of several automotive companies
“to find out what they are thinking about the future in relation to our country”. She stated that
“most” companies have said that
“they are not thinking of changing anything at this time and that the situation has to settle down”. Sheinbaum noted that moving an automotive plant is a complicated process requiring much time and money. She said her government was continuing talks with the US government, with Economy Minister
Marcelo Ebrard meeting with US Secretary of Commerce
Howard Lutnick yesterday.
