In brief: Peru’s imports up in first two months of 2025

*Peru’s association of exporters (Adex) has released new figures showing that imports to Peru totalled US$9.61bn in the first two months of 2025, up 18.7% on the same period in 2024, and the highest amount of the last 26 years. According to Adex, this growth was driven by imports of soybean oil (+117.6%), standard diesel (+60.6%), and yellow flint corn (+52.1%). The country’s main import sector was raw materials & intermediate goods which was worth US$4.80bn, followed by capital goods & construction material (US$2.73bn). According to the same report, China was the main source of imports, accounting for US$2.92bn of the total (30.4%), up 32.3% on the same months in 2024, followed by the US which accounted for 19.2% of the total, up 35.3%. The same report also noted that imports to Peru in February totalled US$4.43bn, up 9.5% on the same month in 2024.
