*Mexico’s national statistics institute (Inegi) has reported that the unemployment rate of the economically active population stood at 2.5% in February 2025, down from 2.7% in January but unchanging on February 2024. The economically active population, which includes individuals aged 15 and over who are employed or seeking work, totalled 60.7m in February 2025, a decline of 207,000 people compared to the previous year. The economic participation rate stood at 58.7%, down from 60.2% in February 2024. Informal employment remains a significant component of the labour market, as 32.3m individuals reported being employed in the informal sector, translating to an informality rate of 54.5%. Additionally, 3.7m people expressed needing and being available to work additional hours. This marks a reduction of 138,000 underemployed individuals compared to February 2024. The distribution of employment across industries in February 2025 showed that 26.1m employed people (44.1%) worked in the services sector, 11.7m (19.7%) in commerce, 9.5m (16.1%) in the manufacturing industry, 6.3m (10.6%) in agriculture, and 4.8m (8.0%) in construction.
