Teachers affiliated with Mexico’s influential Coordinadora Nacional de Trabajadores de la Educación (CNTE) union took to the streets across Mexico City (CDMX) from 19-21 March, disrupting traffic in the city centre and blocking access points to the city’s international airport. The protests came despite President Claudia Sheinbaum withdrawing a reform to the federal public workers’ social security institute (ISSSTE), which she had submitted on 7 February, and which had caused consternation among teachers’ unions.
