In brief: Pensions and child benefits increased in Argentina

*Argentina’s social security agency (Anses) has announced a 2.4% increase in the state pension from April, meaning that the minimum pension will be Ar$355,820 (US$332) per month, including a Ar$70,000 bonus. Child benefits will also increase by 2.4% from April, with the universal child benefit to stand at Ar$102,705, and Ar$334,426 for disabled children. The increase followed protests outside congress in recent weeks by pensioners and other opponents of the drastic austerity measures being pushed by President Javier Milei’s government. More protests took place in Buenos Aires yesterday with some scuffles taking place between demonstrators and police.
