Javier Milei has thanked France’s President
Emmanuel Macron for his country’s
“support and commitment” following a recent phone call between the two heads of state. Milei was responding to a social media post from Macron, written in Spanish, in which he iterated France’s support for the people of Argentina in the face of the country’s economic challenges. Macron also alluded to the possibility of closer economic ties between Argentina and France in the future, stating that,
“much more than an ally in key sectors, like critical metals, Argentina is a friend with whom we wish to build the economy of the future”. Milei thanked Macron, as well as stating that Argentina would continue working with France
“as true friends, to face challenges and build shared opportunities in key sectors for the future.” The call comes as Argentina is
in the midst of negotiating a new deal with the International Monetary Fund (IMF), for which it is seeking to build international support.
