In brief: Honduras announces new China cooperation

*Honduras’ foreign minister, Eduardo Enrique Reina, and China’s ambassador to Honduras, Yu Bo, have announced plans to strengthen cooperation in the health and agriculture sectors. A Honduran government press release notes that the two have agreed a technical preparatory study for three assistance projects for Honduras. These involve 298 ambulances, agricultural pruning kits, and solar dryers for coffee cultivation. The announcement was made on the second anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries after Honduras severed ties with Taiwan. The Honduran government press release states that the agreement supports the policies developed by President Xiomara Castro, with the new ambulances (one for each of Honduras’ municipalities) to support the establishment of eight new hospitals, while the agricultural pruning kits will be used across the country’s 15 departments, generating temporary employment for approximately 10,000 people.
