*Chile’s central bank (BCCh) has released its latest GDP figures, revealing 2.6% GDP growth in 2024, a significant improvement from the 0.5% growth recorded in 2023. According to the report, this expansion was
“driven primarily by exports”, which grew by 6.6%. In terms of sectors, the key contributors to GDP growth were transportation (+6.8%), mining (+5.2%) - boosted by increased copper and lithium production -, trade (+5.1%), and personal services (+3.0%). In contrast, financial services (-0.9%) and business services (-0.6%) recorded the largest year-on-year declines. In comments to the press, Finance Minister
Mario Marcel emphasised the positive results, stating
“these figures help us close 2024 as a year in which Chile regained its path to growth”. Meanwhile, President
Gabriel Boric celebrated the results on social media, posting:
“Chile is growing”.
