*Argentina’s President Javier Milei has signed a decree of necessity and urgency (DNU) that paves the way for a new accord with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) without the need for congressional approval. The DNU, which was published in the official gazette yesterday, does not state the size of the planned IMF deal, but says that the debt will be repaid over a period of ten years, with a grace period of four years and six months. Milei had said on 6 March that he would impose a new IMF deal via a DNU, probably due to concerns that congress, in which his far-right La Libertad Avanza (LLA) has only a weak presence, would refuse to ratify the agreement. Specifics of the deal are still being negotiated with the IMF.
