The latest Corruption Perceptions Index (CPI), released by global anti-corruption NGO Transparency International (TI) on 11 February, described Mexico as being on a “downward swing”. Indeed, Mexico’s score fell in the 2024 report for the first time since 2018, when former president Andrés Manuel López Obrador (2018-2024) took office. The score indicates that, despite initial optimism, the NGO is not convinced by the progress that López Obrador made against corruption during his six years in office.
