PERU: Boluarte entangled in new scandal

Peru’s President Dina Boluarte was summoned by the attorney general, Delia Espinoza, this week to give evidence in an investigation into serious food poisoning suffered by children enrolled in the Qali Warma food programme. Barely a month goes by without Boluarte being caught up in another investigation. This time she is being investigated for alleged improper conduct in her capacity as development and social inclusion minister under former president Pedro Castillo (2021-2022) in signing contracts to favour the sole food supplier for the Qali Warma programme, Frigoinca.
