The killing of five people in a borough on the south-eastern edge of Mexico City (CDMX) has raised scrutiny on the security situation in the capital. Violent crime has significantly decreased in the city in recent years, with President Claudia Sheinbaum often hailing the success of her efforts as mayor of the city (2018-2023) in bringing down rates of high impact crimes.
