Another week has come with another tariff announcement from US President Donald Trump. After successfully negotiating a one-month postponement of the 25% tariffs on Mexican imports announced by Trump on 1 February [WR-25-05], Mexico’s government led by President Claudia Sheinbaum now has another tariff threat to navigate. On 10 February Trump announced tariffs of 25% on steel and aluminium imports from all countries “without exceptions or exemptions”. Mexico’s government has argued the tariffs are “unjustified”, given that the country imports more of the metals from the US than it exports. With the tariffs not due to come into effect until 12 March, more negotiations are likely to ensue.End of preview - This article contains approximately 980 words.
