BRAZIL: Rocky road ahead for new COP30 president

Career diplomat André Corrêa do Lago was confirmed as the president for the United Nations climate change conference (COP30) to be held in Brazil this November. His appointment on 21 January was welcomed by environmental NGOs as well as business associations, but despite his years of experience in climate diplomacy, Corrêa do Lago faces several challenges, such as the withdrawal of the US from the Paris Agreement on climate change.
