BOLIVIA: Judicial rulings threaten to sink Morales’ candidacy

Bolivia’s former president Evo Morales (2006-2019) is reeling from three judicial rulings which have dealt a serious blow to his hopes for a comeback in next year’s presidential elections. The rulings have seen Morales stripped of the leadership of the ruling left-wing Movimiento al Socialismo (MAS) and have upheld presidential term limits excluding him from the election. There is also now a reduced likelihood of judicial elections being held before the presidential vote, which Morales hoped would result in those presidential term limits being repealed.
