*The governments of Norway and the US have made more pledges to donate to the Amazon Fund, Brazil’s financing mechanism for investments in rainforest conservation initiatives and projects promoting the sustainable use of the Amazon’s resources. At an event in Rio de Janeiro yesterday, Norway’s Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre announced a donation of US$60m to the fund. Meanwhile, outgoing US president Joe Biden visited Manaus yesterday, the capital of Amazonas state, making him the first sitting US president to make an official state visit to the Amazon rainforest. Biden announced a donation of US$50m to the fund. However, any climate financing pledge that Biden makes in Brazil might not be implemented by the incoming US administration to be led by former president Donald Trump (2017-2021).
