PERU: Fishing sector demands action on Chinese vessels
In September, artisanal fishing associations in the north of Peru warned that a shortage of Humboldt squid (the most important type of squid worldwide for commercial fisheries) was due to the incursion of Chinese fishing boats into Peruvian territory. In response, the production ministry announced that it was intensifying the processes it used to audit ships in Peruvian territorial waters, including through satellite systems operated by the navy.
