In brief: Brazil’s retail sales up in September

*Brazil’s national statistics institute (Ibge) has released its latest figures for the country’s retail sales, which showed a 0.5% monthly rise in sales volume in September. Compared to the same month last year, sales were up 2.1%, and the accumulated sales volume in the 12 months until September 2024 was up 3.9% from the previous 12-month period. Of the eight product categories measured, four registered a monthly rise in sales in September. The greatest increases were seen in fuels & lubricants (+2.3%) and personal & domestic items (+3.5%). The latest rise in sales in these two categories contrasts the monthly slumps they registered in August, when the former saw a slight drop of 0.1% and the latter was down 4.5% from July.
