In brief: Argentina gov’t rails against airport ground handling firm

*Argentina’s presidential spokesperson, Manuel Adorni, has accused Argentina’s state-owned airport cargo operator, Intercargo, of “kidnapping” 1,500 passengers on 10 airplanes owned by Chile’s Jetsmart and local low-cost airline Flybondi after they were unable to leave their aircraft due to a strike by Intercargo staff. This followed an assembly called by aviation union Asociación del Personal Aeronáutico (APA) in protest at what it described as the “arbitrary dismissal” of a worker at Aeroparque international airport in Buenos Aires. Speaking in a press conference, Adorni said that the government would take judicial action against those responsible for “neglect, kidnapping, public intimidation and obstruction”. Adorni's comments come amid ongoing tensions between the government led by President Javier Milei and unions representing workers of Argentina’s state-owned carrier Aerolíneas Argentinas.
