*Peru’s health ministry (Minsa) and China’s State Administration for Market Regulation (SAMR), the Chinese government agency responsible for food safety, among other responsibilities, have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to boost bilateral cooperation in the area of food security and regulation of food products. The agreement was signed by Peru’s deputy health minister, Ricardo Peña, and SAMR deputy minister, Liu Jun. According to Peru’s government, under the MoU, the two countries will cooperate in areas including: application of food norms, best practice to guarantee food safety and new technology, among other things. The two sides announced that they will establish a joint committee comprising representatives from both countries to ensure that the agreement is carried out.
