In terms of the overall achievements of the six-year AMLO presidency, there is a school of thought which believes his performance was mediocre at best. Despite all the 4
th Transformation rhetoric, drug-related violence continued to rage, the economy was flat, the quality of Mexican democracy deteriorated, and corruption indicators remained high. Admittedly there was progress in the reduction of poverty and an improvement in living standards for some sectors (such as those who benefited from higher-than-inflation increases in the minimum wage). But, it can be argued, AMLO’s overall score was nothing out of the ordinary.
