*The governments of Colombia and Panama have agreed to resume an electricity interconnection project which, according to reports in the Panamanian press, was first announced 15 years ago but failed to get off the ground. A statement from Panama’s energy ministry said that “this project, which faced delays for years, is now being resumed with the aim of capitalising on the advantages of joint infrastructure and moving towards a more sustainable and diversified energy matrix”. The same statement said that the project will “facilitate the exchange of energy in both directions”. The relaunch of the project was announced following a meeting between Colombia’s energy & mining minister, Andrés Camacho, and Panama’s energy minister, Juan Manuel Urriola, during a conference held in Paraguay by the Latin American Energy Organisation (Olade). Camacho and Urriola agreed to hold a follow-up meeting in December with other entities that will be involved in the project.
