In brief: Argentina names new energy secretary

*Argentina’s government led by President Javier Milei has appointed María Tettamanti as the country’s new energy secretary, following the resignation of Eduardo Rodríguez Chirillo “for personal reasons”. The government said that Rodríguez would continue to collaborate with the economy ministry, under which the energy secretariat sits, on different projects. Tettamanti has worked in Argentina’s energy industry for over 30 years, according to a government statement. She has held positions, including at executive level, at different companies in the sector, most recently serving as general manager at NRG Argentina, a mining company that produces sand suitable for fracking operations in Argentina’s unconventional oil and gas reservoirs, such as the Vaca Muerta shale formation. She has also acted as a consultant to the secretary of energy and mining coordination, Daniel González. Economy Minister Luis Caputo thanked Rodríguez for his “tremendous dedication, excellent work and excellent results”, stating that, “energy was a real disaster [when you took over] and today it is one of the sectors with most future and investment”.
