SURINAME: Pioneering carbon credit scheme faces challenges

Suriname is launching the world’s first sovereign carbon credit issuance under rules set up by the 2015 Paris Agreement on climate change. Being first has advantages but it can also throw up risks. Among them is local resistance: environmental and indigenous groups say they have not been properly consulted.
