ECUADOR/COLOMBIA: Colombia suspends energy exports to Ecuador

Ecuador’s ongoing energy crisis has been further exacerbated with the announcement on 19 September that Colombia was suspending energy exports to its neighbour. Both countries are struggling due to a drought that has impacted water levels at hydroelectric power stations; Colombia’s environment minister, Susana Muhamad, warned on 19 September that without major rainfall before the start of the dry season in December, reservoir levels are too low to ensure that current domestic demand will be met.
