Guyana and Suriname have taken the first step towards joint exploration of the gas reserves off their respective coasts. The director of Suriname’s state oil company Staatsolie, Annand Jagesar, said in a press conference on 16 October that the two countries were keen to join forces to carry out joint exploration of gas deposits on their shared border: the Maka and Kwaskwasi gas fields in Suriname and Haimara and Pluma gas fields, in Guyana. Suriname’s foreign minister, Albert Ramdin, meanwhile, said the matter would be a high priority over the next two to three months.
