González promises to return for inauguration in Venezuela

Edmundo González, the exiled opposition candidate widely believed to have won Venezuela’s 28 July presidential election, declared on 4 October that he will return to Caracas to be inaugurated as president on 10 January, five days before the formal end of Christmas festivities in the country. In an effort to lift dampened spirits and distract attention from his disputed election, President Nicolás Maduro decreed that the festive season should start on 1 October and finish on 15 January.
