*Panama’s government has marked the first 100 days in office of President José Raúl Mulino by touting its efforts to boost employment and investment. The labour ministry highlighted the youth employment scheme ‘Mi Primer Empleo’, saying that so far, 594 young people have been hired by 283 companies under the scheme, under which the government subsidises the wages of young people gaining work experience. The labour ministry also stated that 27,362 new contracts had been signed during Mulino’s first 100 days in office, and that 804 people had rejoined the labour market. Meanwhile, the ministry for trade & industry said that the Mulino administration had “worked to position Panama as a leader in attracting investment and as a regional centre for semiconductors”. It highlighted 12 new investments in duty-free zones, amounting to US$29.8m, and the approval of three new investments for US$11.3m in headquarters of multinational companies.
