In brief: Analysts raise estimate for Argentina’s 2024 inflation rate

*Argentina’s central bank (BCRA) has reported that in its latest survey of market expectations (REM), private analysts have raised their inflation forecast for 2024 to 123.6%, up 0.8 percentage points from the previous (August) survey. The analysts forecast monthly inflation of 3.5% in September 2024, in keeping with the previous estimate, and monthly inflation of 3.4% in October, down 0.1 percentage point. Official data shows that Argentina’s monthly inflation rate stood at 4.2% in August, with the annual rate standing at 236.7%. In the REM, analysts maintained their forecast from the previous survey for GDP to decline by 3.8% in 2024 compared to 2023.
