The United Nations Security Council (UNSC) has voted to extend the deployment of a Kenyan-led multinational security support mission to Haiti (MSS) for a further year. The decision ends speculation as to whether the MSS, which was authorised a year ago in response to the multifaceted crisis in Haiti, would become a traditional UN peacekeeping force, bringing with it the advantage of attracting longer term funding.
