In brief: Monthly inflation up in Paraguay

*Paraguay’s central bank (BCP) has reported that the country’s annual inflation rate stood at 4.1% in September, down from 4.3% in August and from 4.4% in July, but up from 3.5% registered in September 2023. The monthly inflation rate in September was 0.2%, up from deflation of -0.2% in August and inflation of 0.1% in July but down from 0.5% in September 2023. This brings the accumulated inflation rate for the year to 2.9%, above the 2.5% recorded in the same period of 2023. Core inflation, excluding volatile items, was 0.2% for September, with an annual rate of 3.1%, slightly down from the 3.3% recorded the previous month. The BCP said the rise in monthly inflation was mainly driven by price increases in imported durable goods such as cars, mobile phones, sound equipment, and furniture & domestic appliances, as well as services.
