CHILE: Scandal deepens as top magistrates face impeachment

Chile’s judiciary faces the most serious crisis in the 34 years since the return to democracy, according to Deputy Eric Aedo of the centrist Democracia Cristiana (DC). President Gabriel Boric’s ruling left-wing coalition and the right-of-centre opposition coalition Chile Vamos both presented separate impeachment motions in the lower chamber of congress this week against a total of three supreme court magistrates accused of corruption and influence trafficking.
