Jamaica leads way with troop deployment to Haiti

A small contingent of troops from Jamaica and Belize has arrived in Haiti to join the Multinational Security Support (MSS) mission led by Kenya, which deployed 400 soldiers in June to combat the armed gangs that hold sway on the island. The Caribbean countries contributed the troops days after US Secretary of State Antony Blinken visited Haiti, pledging an increase in humanitarian aid and calling for a new security mission mandate to help restore law and order and pave the way for long-delayed elections in 2025.
