ARGENTINA: Milei faces growing headwinds in congress

With no meaningful experience in governing and only a miniscule number of seats in congress, it was never going to be easy for Argentina’s President Javier Milei to govern. But whatever willingness to forge consensus there was, it is fading quickly. Over the past week, Milei’s relationship with congress has soured markedly, putting in danger his entire project to downsize the Argentine state, fix tattered public finances, and liberalise the economy.
