In brief: Retail sales rise in Brazil

*Brazil’s national statistics institute (Ibge) has released its latest figures for retail sales, which show that the total sales volume in the country rose by 0.6% in monthly terms in July. Compared with July last year, sales volume increased by 4.4%. The accumulated sales volume in the 12 months until July 2024 was up 3.7% from the previous 12-month period. Of the eight categories of products measured, six posted a monthly rise in sales in July. The greatest increase was for office supplies and information & communications equipment (+2.2%). The category which recovered the most compared to June was supermarkets, food, drinks, and smoking products, which registered a 1.7% rise in sales in July, in contrast to a 2.2% decline in June.
