More questions than answers have emerged in the weeks following the arrest of two alleged leaders of the Sinaloa drug trafficking organisation (DTO) in the US at the end of July. On 15 August Mexico’s federal attorney general’s office (FGR) released a statement concerning two of the most mysterious aspects of the case: the extent of US involvement and the murder of Sinaloa politician Héctor Cuén Ojeda, which took place the same day as the arrests and is apparently related.
