BRAZIL: Top court blocks social media platform X

Despite warnings from Brazil’s supreme court (STF), the owner of tech giant X (formerly Twitter), Elon Musk, has refused to comply with court orders and appoint a legal representative in the country. This caused a dramatic escalation of the tensions between Musk and Brazil’s judiciary, resulting in STF justice Alexandre de Moraes ordering the suspension of the social media platform in Brazil. Government officials and other STF justices have expressed support for De Moraes’ decision, but the move has faced criticism from right-wing politicians as well as some legal experts.
