VENEZUELA: Hopes persist for Maduro’s negotiated exit

Three weeks on from Venezuela’s 28 July presidential election, President Nicolás Maduro is adamant that he will not relinquish power despite signs that he lost by a wide margin to opposition candidate Edmundo González. Behind the scenes, however, talks are reportedly taking place between Venezuela and the US that could still see Maduro agree to step down on favourable terms.
