MEXICO: Zaldívar to oversee judicial reform

Mexico’s President-elect Claudia Sheinbaum announced the latest additions to her incoming cabinet on 1 August. One appointment proved particularly controversial, although it was not wholly unexpected. Sheinbaum announced that former supreme court (SCJN) president Arturo Zaldívar would serve as her general coordinator of policy and government. In this role, Zaldívar will oversee constitutional and legal reform initiatives, with a contentious judicial reform chief among these.
