In brief: Mexico’s López Obrador upbeat on Dos Bocas production

*Mexico’s President Andrés Manuel López Obrador has said that the Dos Bocas (Olmeca) refinery in Tabasco state, one of his flagship projects, is currently producing around 150,000 barrels per day (bpd) of petrol, adding that by mid-September this was expected to increase to 340,000 bpd which he said was equivalent to 20% of total petrol consumption in the country. He said that the refinery, which was inaugurated in July 2022 but only officially began production on 3 August, cost M$330bn (US$17bn), which he said was made possible as a result of government savings through cracking down on the huachicol business (trading in fuels stolen from the oil and gas pipeline network).
