On 6 August authorities in Brazil’s largest city, São Paulo, launched Operation ‘Salus et Dignitas’ (‘health and dignity’ in Latin), which involved police raids in the illegal drug bazaar in the city centre known as ‘Cracolândia’ (Crackland).
