*Argentina’s President Javier Milei has reiterated pledges to lift export taxes and currency controls to benefit the country’s agricultural sector. Speaking at the La Rural agricultural conference in Buenos Aires, Milei stated that: “No one is as eager as we are to get out of this disastrous model where the State, through withholdings and restrictions, expropriates 70% of what the countryside produces.” However, he warned that it was necessary to solve the underlying problems before lifting the restrictions to avoid “exacerbating the crisis”. The agricultural sector has grown impatient with progress under his government. Also speaking at the conference, Nicolás Pino, a leader of farm lobby Sociedad Rural Argentina (SRA) said that while there were “sufficient reasons” to make complaints and demands, he called on the patience of the rural sector “because we believe it is useful to give the government a space of trust”.
