BRAZIL: Government to mediate conflicts on indigenous land

In response to violent incidents against indigenous communities in recent weeks, the federal government has sent officials to mediate land conflicts in the states of Mato Grosso do Sul and Paraná. Representatives from the federal ministry for indigenous peoples (MPI) and from human rights groups have denounced the juridical uncertainty regarding the demarcation process for indigenous territories as a factor that could have contributed to the rise in anti-indigenous violence.
