BRAZIL: Spying probe piles pressure on Bolsonaro

Supreme court (STF) justice Alexandre de Moraes has removed the court seal on files relating to the federal police (PF) investigation into members of the Brazilian intelligence agency (Abin) who allegedly carried out illegal surveillance for the benefit of former president Jair Bolsonaro (2019-2023). The case files disclosed have heightened the legal pressure on the former president, as they included a recording of a suspicious meeting which suggested that Bolsonaro might have been planning to abuse Abin’s intelligence capabilities to protect his son, Senator Flávio Bolsonaro, from corruption investigations.
