Peru’s authoritarian former president Alberto Fujimori (1990-2000) is plotting an unlikely presidential comeback after being controversially released from prison last year, where he had been serving a 25-year sentence for human rights abuses and corruption. Fujimori, who will be 86 at the time of the next election in 2026 and in his 90s if he were to win and serve a full term, is in poor health and faces legal obstacles to his candidacy.
