In brief: Brazil’s inflation slows in monthly terms

*Brazil’s national statistics institute (Ibge) has released the consumer price index (Ipca) for June, showing a monthly inflation rate of 0.21%, marking a deceleration from the 0.46% inflation registered in May. This latest result contrasts the slight deflation of -0.08% registered in June 2023. The accumulated inflation rate in the 12 months until June 2024 came to 4.23%, within the central bank (BCB)'s annual inflation target range of 3.00% +/-1.5 for 2024. Of the nine categories of products and services measured for the Ipca, seven registered a monthly rise in prices in June. The highest inflation was measured in the food & drink category (0.44%) and health & personal care (0.54%). The two categories which saw monthly deflation were transport (-0.19%) and communications (-0.08%).
