BRAZIL: Lula tours big cities to back mayoral endorsements

From 6 July until the first round of municipal elections on 6 October, restrictions will be placed on mayoral hopefuls holding public office from using their current roles to unfairly benefit their campaigns. In this final week before the electoral rules come into force, President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva kicked off a regional tour on 27 June, travelling to some of Brazil’s biggest cities with the official purpose of launching public works, but with the underlying political goal of raising the profile of allies who are running for mayorships by appearing on stage with them at launch events.
