*The European Union has announced finance of up to €1.10bn (US$1.18bn) to be invested over a five-year period in strengthening the electricity market of the Central American Integration System (Sica), whose members include Belize, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua, Panama, and the Dominican Republic. The initiative was presented at a meeting of Sica energy ministers in the Honduran capital, Tegucigalpa, by the EU’s ambassador to El Salvador and Sica, François Roudié, and Felice Zaccheo, the head of the EU’s unit for Mexico, Central America, Caribbean and regional operations.
