*Colombia’s congress has voted to increase the country’s debt ceiling by US$17.6bn, rushing the bill through both chambers of congress yesterday just before a month-long legislative recess. The increase was approved in the lower chamber with 116 votes in favour and 11 against, and in the senate with 53 votes in favour and nine against. The finance ministry had sought an increase in the debt ceiling amid concerns over Colombia’s fiscal balance which could otherwise see the government struggle to make debt repayments that fall due over the next three years.
